At Enexis, the idea of doubling the current network tariff for households that use a lot of electricity is in play. This refers to households with their own charging station, many solar panels or a heat pump. This proposal stems from rising grid costs due to the energy transition, which are being used to reinforce the power grid. But what does the energy sector think of this idea?
Netbeheer Nederland
Theo Scholte of Netbeheer Nederland is cautiously positive about the idea, because it makes sense that those who use more of the electricity grid should also pay more. However, he points out the challenge of finding a fair distribution key without making certain groups feel disadvantaged. Netbeheer Nederland is currently investigating a fair and future-proof tariff structure.
Stedin
Nancy Kabalt-Groot, former CEO of Stedin, and Reyer Gerlach, professor of environmental economics, are critical. Kabalt-Groot believes that the proposal does not contribute to the energy transition and unfairly penalizes sustainable efforts, while Gerlach warns that ad hoc solutions such as this could undermine the achievement of long-term goals.
Alternative solutions such as encouraging home batteries and energy management systems are considered better for addressing grid congestion and promoting the energy transition
